Picture Books with Unexpected Endings and Terrific Twists
My debut picture book, You Must Bring A Hat, illustrated by Kate Hindley, was published by Simon & Schuster, more than seven years ago now! How time flies.
Since then, it’s won the Sainsbury’s Children’s Book of the Year award…

been read by none other than Tom Hardy (the prospect of which gathered rather a lot of excitement and coverage) as a CBeebies bedtime story (on New Year’s Eve, no less!)…
…and been translated into multiple languages.
Front covers for, clockwise from top left, the French, German, Slovakian and Turkish editions of You Must Bring A Hat
All very exciting!
It’s also a book with what I hope is a brilliant twist! I love picture books with unexpected endings, and have recommended five of my favourites over on shepherd.com – a brilliant website that helps readers find the books they’re likely to love, based on author’s recommendations.
